The Foxhole Court – Nora Sakavic

Yes hello, hi there, how are you doing?

I hope you’re having a good day!!

First of all: I’m aware that it’s almost the end of March even though this is my February review.

Second: That really doesn’t matter at all beCAUSE I GET TO RAVE ABOUT MY BABIES IN THIS REVIEW.

I saw someone review TFC online as a horrible book that they wished was never released because it was written badly but sucked them in so much that they re-read it multiple times. Let me tell you: whoever that reviewer was, I totally agree with them.

Yes, TFC reads like it was posted on Wattpad in early 2013. HOWEVER. It is simultaneously one of the best things I’ve ever read???

The Foxhole Court I - Nora Sakavic

The storyline is messed up in various levels, there’s a sport that doesn’t exist, drugs that don’t exist and in general it’s just… one big mind-trip? When I started reading the first book I thought I was about to get a cute mlm college athlete story, and instead I got a horrific bloody, fucked-up story about the son of a serial killer.

Yep, you read that right.

Don’t worry, it’s still gay – and there’s still sports involved. Slightly violent sports. Oh, and a mafia. Within the sport.

Like I said: absolute TRIP.

Anyway, reasons to read this book:

  • You will end up being absolutely obsessed.
  • Neil is a trainwreck with zero sense of self-preservation but he’s also like a little rabbit that you find on the side of the road that keeps trying to bite you but is also way too cute so you end up loving it with all your heart.
  • NEIL AND ANDREW
  • Also Renee and Allison because they’re badass.
  • And don’t even get me started on Dan???
  • The discourse between the characters.

So basically, Neil is an eighteen-years-old college athlete who is kind of running for his life but his love for Exy (the non-existing sport) wins out on the need to run for his life. (Read: absolutely no sense of self-preservation). He plays for the Foxes, a college team that is famously known for only having ‘broken’ players. And then there’s really no other way to explain this story than saying that pretty much everyone tries to murder them while the Foxes try to win the national championships. Ironically, their biggest issue might not be staying alive, but trying not to kill each other.

Aside from this, there are two important remarks I’d like to make.

  1. While I really love these books, I am incredibly annoyed at the plotline of the first book, mostly because there. is. no. plot. Do yourself a favour, and consider the first two books as one book.
  2. TRIGGER WARNINGS. Seriously. As mentioned before several times, this book is severely fucked up. There’s blood, and gore, and murders, and a whole lot of mentions about scars. Topics such as sexual assault, rape, kidnapping, torture, self-harm, murder are present this book, so be safe!
